In its 37th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade announced that Winsor sophomore Meg Madison ’24 is the 2021-22 Gatorade Massachusetts Girls Cross Country Player of the Year and the first athlete in Winsor’s history to win the prestigious award. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Madison as Massachusetts’s best high school girls cross country runner.
According to the press release, the Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport.
“This is very exciting news for the Winsor community. We are so proud of what Meg has accomplished both on and off the field,” said Director of Winsor Athletics Sherren Granese. “She is one of the most dedicated and determined athletes that I have ever seen,” Granese added.
Meg led the team to their sixth straight Eastern Independent League Championship, by winning the race and was voted the EIL Most Valuable Runner by all of the league coaches.
Congratulations on this historic achievement to Meg Madison!
