LCA Senior Wrestlers Share Their Wisdom with the Underclass
1/31/2025

As the wrestling season progresses and our seniors prepare to take their final bows on the mat, they leave behind not just their records and achievements but also the wisdom gained from years of hard work, perseverance, and leadership. The LCA wrestling team is more than just a group of athletes; it is a family that pushes each other to grow stronger, both physically and mentally. They have learned to Glorify God through their efforts, to pursue Excellence, and to uphold Respect for their teammates and opponents alike. Here are some words of encouragement and advice from our senior wrestlers to the underclassmen who will carry on the legacy.

Trust the Process
Sam reminds younger wrestlers that growth comes from embracing the journey rather than focusing solely on the outcome. "Wrestling itself is not always easy and is a mental battle," he says. "It has prepared me to instruct others in working hard when times are rough. Embrace the process, not the result." His journey reflects Honesty in effort and commitment to improvement.

Lean on Your Teammates
Joshua emphasizes the value of camaraderie and persistence. "Though going to practice is a hassle sometimes and the urge to skip is insane, practice is so valuable—not just to improve in the sport, but to build stronger bonds with teammates and friends," he shares. "We sharpen one another during practices and even in matches as we cheer each other on." His words embody the value of Partnership, reminding younger athletes that no one grows alone.

Play for a Greater Purpose
James encourages underclassmen to keep their faith at the center of their athletic endeavors. "Don't be discouraged when not getting the result you wanted," he advises. "Know that we aren't just playing for ourselves but playing for God." This commitment to a higher purpose reflects how LCA wrestlers seek to Glorify God in all they do.

Take on Challenges with Confidence
Linnea, who has competed at multiple levels in different sports, urges younger athletes to step out of their comfort zones. "Don't be afraid to try something new and different! No matter what, there will be people in this community to help and support you." This spirit of encouragement and inclusivity is built on Respect for one another’s journeys.

Learn from Those Around You
Lois, who has made history by helping start the girls' wrestling program, highlights the importance of teamwork and learning from others. "Wrestling taught me the importance of taking a step back and watching everyone’s strengths so I can work with them to build a stronger team," she reflects. "Never be afraid to ask for help or to reach out because if you don't, you'll never grow from where you are now." Her leadership showcases the importance of Truth—recognizing and embracing the strengths of those around her.

Give It Your All
Manny offers a powerful reminder that effort matters more than wins and losses. "Playing sports at LCA showed me that it’s not all about the wins and losses but about the effort we put in and whether or not we gave it our all. You can do it. All you have to do is trust God, and you’ll see yourself in places you never expected to be." His words embody Excellence—striving to be the best you can be, no matter the outcome.

Enjoy Every Moment
Tim keeps his advice simple yet meaningful: "Enjoy it." The years on the mat will go by quickly, and making the most of every moment—whether it’s a hard-fought match, a tough practice, or a simple team huddle—will create lasting memories.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Olivia emphasizes the importance of trying new things. "Trying new things such as sports or classes is the best way to meet new people and step out of your comfort zone," she advises. "Collaboration and teamwork are key to success in any area." This embodies Partnership, as she encourages others to build relationships and grow together.

Stay Consistent and Work Hard
Mayope encourages younger athletes to be patient and consistent. "Improvement doesn’t happen overnight, but if you stay dedicated and keep working hard, you’ll see the results over time," he shares. "Trust the training and trust yourself." His perseverance reflects the value of Excellence, reminding athletes that greatness is built through steady effort.

Embrace Leadership
Amelia believes that being part of the wrestling team helps build leadership skills. "Leading by example and encouraging others is just as important as individual success," she says. "Be the teammate that others can rely on." True Leadership comes from serving others, and Amelia exemplifies this.

Persevere Through Challenges
Luke highlights the importance of perseverance. "There will be tough practices and tough losses, but those moments make you stronger," he explains. "Stay committed, and don’t let setbacks define you." This resilience embodies Honesty, pushing through struggles with integrity.

Support Each Other
Ale emphasizes the importance of team unity. "The bond between teammates is something special," she shares. "Lift each other up, celebrate each other’s victories, and be there through the struggles. Wrestling is a tough sport, but having a strong support system makes all the difference." This commitment to others showcases Respect and Partnership—cornerstones of the LCA wrestling team.

The legacy of LCA’s wrestling team is built on dedication, resilience, and the bonds formed through shared struggles and triumphs. As these seniors prepare to move on to new challenges, their words will remain with the underclassmen who step up to carry the torch. To the future leaders of LCA wrestling: trust yourself, work hard, and never forget the family that stands beside you on and off the mat.
