EIL Heads of School Statement Regarding Spring 2021 Athletic Season
3/5/2021

What a year this has been! From all of us in the Eastern Independent School League, thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support. Over the past several weeks, the Athletic Directors and Heads of School from the EIL have met to discuss the spring season. We are looking forward to the spring, and are excited about scheduling more competitive opportunities for our teams this spring than we were able to schedule last fall. Together, we are hoping to create space for schools to schedule competitions by allowing them to schedule as late into the season as is reasonable for each school.

Because each school has its own unique structure and its own set of challenges, we are creating as much flexibility in scheduling as possible. For that reason, individual schools may also organize practices and arrange competitions with schools outside of our league, dependent on state and local health guidelines. And because the eleven schools in our league are in three different states and have a variety of COVID protocols and academic structures in place, we have agreed that there will be no official EIL schedule or championships for Spring 2021.

Our shared commitment to health and safety guides our planning, and our schools have agreed upon the following protocols if or when they participate in competitions. Our participation in these competitions is predicated on these protocols as well as individual school, town, and state guidelines.

● We know that families will want to be able to watch some of these competitions. We will begin the season without spectators, and our schools will reconsider that policy as circumstances allow.
● Everyone present at competitions (students and adults) must be masked at all times, must follow social distancing guidelines, and must have completed their respective school’s COVID-19 attestation protocol prior to arriving on any school campus.
● Access to any indoor spaces by visiting players and coaches is at the discretion of the host school. Players should not expect to have access to indoor spaces.

Thank you again for your partnership throughout the year. We look forward to an enjoyable spring season with our student-athletes.
