Portsmouth Abbey Student Athletes Attend the First Annual SALT Summit
12/8/19

On November 19 Portsmouth Abbey School took part in the First Annual Student-Athlete Leadership Team Summit (SALT) at Berwick Academy in Berwick, Maine.  Ryan Dolan, athletic trainer, and Whitney Jones, assistant director of athletics, were in attendance alongside Portsmouth Abbey School’s Sixth-Form three-sport captains, Alyssa Civiello, Cam Holley, Nicole Huyer, Josh Plumb, and Dean Simeone.  Keynote Speaker Billy McBride, who serves as assistant athletic director, diversity and inclusion director, director of club sports and senior coach at Amherst College, spoke about how sports and student leadership can help to combat discrimination and other social injustices such as diversity and inclusion. Breakout sessions included opportunities for students to collaborate with other EIL student athletes about leadership and how to promote a positive culture both on and off the field.
Al Brown, Portsmouth Abbey School’s athletic director, is excited Portsmouth Abbey is part of SALT. “This summit is open to all EIL schools and is designed to help schools and student leaders promote high standards of fair play, respect, and sportsmanship in the athletic arena”.
